What is a diesel smoke test / opacity test?

In response to public concerns about the health impacts of heavy-duty vehicle smoke emissions, the California law under the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) requires the owners of California-based truck and bus fleets to perform annual smoke opacity and tampering self-inspections of their vehicles. It is important to comply with the PSIP program. To ensure compliance the Air Resources Board will randomly audit fleets’ maintenance and inspection records, and will test a representative sample of vehicles. For a full listing of requirements you can contact the Air Resources Board or go to www.arb.ca.gov for more information.

Superior Equipment Repair can ensure that you are compliant with the PSIP program. We can perform smoke tests at our truck shop in Newcastle, California or our mobile mechanics can do smoke tests at your location. Give us a call to set up a time that is convenient with you.
